About
Abundant element. Alternate source of energy.
Hydrogen is the lightest and most common of elements. It is found everywhere in nature, in water and in many compounds. When properly harnessed, it can provide a safe, clean and unlimited supply of energy for all of the world's basic energy needs. Experts agree that an alternate source of energy to the world's limited supply of oil and natural gas is a national imperative.
Making hydrogen a viable and practical means of energy for wide-spread use requires much in the way of research and scientific exploration. Researchers everywhere are looking for safer, more efficient ways of producing and storing hydrogen while manufacturers and engineers are considering the infrastructure needed for handling and transporting such a source.
ARC:Hydrogen is taking a leadership role in the hydrogen research on a regional level as well as on an international level. ARC:Hydrogen is the first time a nationally-recognized lab and a community have joined together to position itself as the leader in applied technology. Regionally, ARC:Hydrogen's co-location with the Savannah River National Lab provides for a space where industrial and academic partners can collaborate. Internationally, ARC:Hydrogen houses the admininstrative facility for the ITER project, which concerns hydrogen function of the multi-country reactor.
ARC:Hydrogen provides an environment where collaborative efforts result in sustainable solutions for this generation as well as those in the future.
