Hydrogen Internal Combustion Truck
The Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 hydrogen internal combustion engine truck is the first registered hydrogen vehicle in South Carolina. The truck was designed and engineered by eTech of Arizona and modified by Roush Industries of Michigan.
The hydrogen-powerered truck creates dialogue surrounding the infrastructure of hydrogen. As these vehicles become more easily available, the infrastructure to refuel and service them is critical. The demand for hydrogen refueling stations and technicians who service hydrogen-powered vehicles will become greater.
The Aiken Edgefield Economic Development Partnership long ago realized this potential and created this initative (ARC:Hydrogen) to be a catalyst in the manufacturing of hydrogen and fuel cell products. Long term, this creates and attracts new companies to the region, thus stimulating economic growth.
Why a Hydrogen Truck?
- It demonstrates that hydrogen vehicles are safe and reliable.
- It creates an opportunity to develop and test cost-effective hydrogen systems and equipment.
- It highlights the fact that hydrogen refueling stations and infrastructure for large scale public use will become vital in the near future, as demand for hydrogen vehicles increases.
